DSA Stars of Direct Selling awards 2015!

Good evening every one, long time no speak. One has been extremely busy this time of year, and as much as I would love to sit with a coffee and write a blog, sometimes it can be hard to find the time. But hoorah – I have found some time, and of course coffee!!!

For those who are unsure what it is I am talking about, Direct selling has been a popular method of retailing since the days of travelling salesmen, when merchants would travel from place to place with an ever-changing array of goods for sale. The party plan model was pioneered in the 1940s and the network marketing model evolved later. These models retain their foundation as the direct sales channel.

The UK DSA is an incorporated association with more than 130 members who engage at least half a million people in the UK in the distribution of their products. It is foremost an association directed and controlled by its members. Some of the outstanding contributions that have been made to the industry at association and corporate levels are recognised through induction to the DSA’s Hall of Fame.
The DSA’s were celebrating their 50th year in the UK, so decided to hold an exclusive awards ceremony, called the Stars of Direct Selling Awards 2015.

I was nominated, and became a finalist for one of the awards they had going, Direct Selling Rising Star of the Year!

Can you imagine how amazed I was?! At this point, I have been with Avon for roughly 5 months.

I have now been recognised nationally at 2 different events, and I haven’t even been building a business for 6 months yet. This is crazy talk. I was a finalist amongst 4 others, from 400,000 other possible candidates in the UK!

The Event

My goodness, the event was amazing. Saira Khan, runner up on The Apprentice 2005 hosted the awards, and I am a massive fan of The Apprentice so myself and Avon Manager Jo Munroe went over and introduced ourselves – she was such a lovely woman, incredibly inspiring, and her talk at the end of the event was so touching I felt like I was going to cry it was that motivating!

As well as the event being held at the prestigious location of Whittlebury Hall, it was arranged that the finalists and our plus ones would meet Kala Kubikova and Andrea Slater for a coffee before entering the awards ceremony for our 3 course meal and awards to be presented. Andrea and I had previously been acquainted at a previous event, however it was the first time meeting and talking to Kala. They are both such wonderful ladies!

My thoughts

Being shortlisted for this award honestly was so amazing for me, and I truly felt honoured to attend amongst established and successful business men and women across the country, throughout different Direct Selling companies, through all walks of life.

I really do try hard with what I do and it was an absolute privilege to be surrounded by them, and the support I had on the day was out of this world. I really must thank Nic McLeod, Jo Munroe, Andrea Slater, Kala Kubikova, and of course my wonderful mom Gail Reynolds for the support I had on the day and the encouragement! This company really does look after me and every other Avon Leader, Representative and customer and it just gives me such an amazing feeling of love and happiness that I can’t contain.

Although I did not win the award as such, I was a finalist amongst women that totally deserved the award, but let’s look at the positive side. I was a finalist from 400,000+ eligible Direct Sellers in the UK. That still gives me chills to say and even now the event has passed, it still makes me feel so good inside that people thought to nominate me let alone shortlist me and put me through as a finalist.

It definitely is worth saying that anyone could be in my position today, it really is all down to yourself, your hard work and determination, and then backing the hard work with positive thinking.

Yes – there have been days where I have been so overworked that I will have a little cry, or I have said no to going out with friends on a weekend, or the only money I have had to spend has gone on diesel so I can go and do more work, but wanna know something? I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!!

It pays off when I can say, I think I will work from bed today. Or, yes mom I would love to go for lunch with you! I can wear what I like, do my hair and make up the way I like, I can say what I like and best of all I am my own boss so nobody can tell me what I can and can not do. I am able to work flexible hours, I am able to meet the most wonderful women and have the honour of introducing them to such an amazing network and earn them extra money, and I have made friends along the way. I get to earn a residual income and when it comes to the time where I can settle down, buy a house, get married, have children. I will be financially free, and I won’t have a worry in the world (please note I do not intend on having children and marrying too soon haha!!!)

Lastly, thank you to everyone who has supported me on my journey so far. I really love every piece of your support. Xxx

Supportive comments are definitely the highlight of all this. It is so wonderful to feel like people are rooting for you!
